This Saturday, August 17th is National Nonprofit Day – a day to recognize the positive impact that nonprofit organizations have on our local communities here in New Jersey and across the world.
In the United State alone there are over 1.5 million nonprofits with nearly 41,000 nonprofits in New Jersey. These organizations make a huge contribution to issues that are vital to our quality of life, including healthcare, the environment, the arts, and basic needs including housing and food insecurity.
Nonprofit organizations give likeminded people the opportunity to come together for the common good; transforming shared beliefs, our boldest dreams and highest ideals into action to benefit noble causes that impact all of us. They foster civic engagement and leadership, drive economic growth, and strengthen the fabric of our communities.
Many nonprofits depend on fundraising to invest in their mission and accomplish their goals to serve the greater good. Nonprofit, however, doesn’t mean no profit. Nonprofits invest any surplus of revenue over expenses right back into their charitable purpose to continue to maintain and expand services. There is no distribution to individual investors or shareholders. Like any successful business, however, a nonprofit also invests in its own infrastructure – such as technology and personnel to stay healthy and vibrant to best serve community needs.
Today, like many businesses, nonprofits face the challenges of workforce shortages and rising costs. At the same time, demand for services has been outpacing fundraising.
Alzheimer’s New Jersey® continues to be a place for caregivers and families to turn to when they need assistance. It is the commitment of our donors, volunteers, walkers and community partners that fuels our mission and enables us to provide vital programs and services that local families count on.
