Several prescription drugs have been available to treat the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease for many years. In the past 2 years, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given full approval to disease-modifying drugs. These medications are called disease-modifying drugs because they work by targeting and clearing beta-amyloid plaques from the brain.
