Round the clock caregiving of someone living with Alzheimer’s and dementia can be rewarding, but it is not without its challenges. Left unchecked, caregiving can quickly become emotionally and physically exhausting for the caregiver.
Like a much needed vacation to reset the body and soul, respite services can help alleviate the emotional and physical stress of caregiving. Alzheimer’s New Jersey’s Respite Care and Wellness program is designed to help primary family caregivers learn about and experience the benefits of regular time-off from caregiving and link them to community-based respite care services such as in-home care, adult day services and overnight respite. For those who qualify, Alzheimer’s New Jersey also provides a one-time financial scholarship of $1,000 to help support the cost of respite care services.
Through our Helpline at 888-280-6055, Alzheimer’s New Jersey can provide information about respite care services available throughout New Jersey, but we do not make specific recommendations concerning the choice of respite services. We can help caregivers decide what type of respite might be best for their individual situation. Ultimately, the family caregiver is responsible for the selection and arrangement of respite services.
Funding for the Respite Care and Wellness Program is made possible through the generosity of our donors. The commitment of many individuals, corporations and community based organizations make this vital program possible for New Jersey families.
