This fall, Alzheimer’s New Jersey celebrated Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s® like no other year. Instead of joining together as a community in Point Pleasant Beach, Morristown, Princeton, Jersey City and in Paramus, we connected virtually and brought Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s to you.
While a virtual event can never perfectly replace the excitement and inspiration of being together with all of you to support New Jersey families impacted by Alzheimer’s disease, Virtual Sunday on October 25th was the next best thing as we streamed into your homes for breakfast with fun, entertainment and the personal stories of those who face Alzheimer’s every day.
We know that hundreds of you watched that morning and while we couldn’t see you, we felt your connection to the importance of Alzheimer’s New Jersey’s local mission as expressed through your text messages, social media postings and your personal fundraising and donations. We loved that many of you walked in your own neighborhoods and sent us photos and videos. We may not have been an in-person community on that day, but we were certainly well-connected in our fight against Alzheimer’s disease in our state.
Moving from live events to a live stream is not easy and I want to thank our Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s committee chairs and committee members who didn’t skip a beat as we made this virtual pivot. I also want to recognize the many volunteers, team captains, walkers, donors and corporate sponsors, that made Virtual Sunday and the 2020 Walk to Fight Alzheimer’s a community experience in every sense. I know that many of you are continuing your fundraising through our December 31 deadline, which is greatly appreciated. Your commitment to Alzheimer’s New Jersey and the families we serve is amazing – made more so by these very difficult times.
Thank you again for your demonstration of caring support for over 600,000 New Jersey citizens who have Alzheimer’s disease or are caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or another dementia.
Happy Holidays to all!
